In Florida, cougars are called panthers.  Sometimes  there are considered a subspecies, although that designation can be controversial.  Regardless, these beautiful cats are also the state animal  of Florida.  In recent news, a female panther was found moving northward in the state, reclaiming lost breeding territory.  She was discovered in Charlotte County,  marked in  the  red box in  the picture below.   This could be great news for the potential  recovery of the Florida panther!
